Marketing During Challenging Times: Tips for Editors

Your Services Are Still Needed

Don’t stop self-promotion. While everyone in the world is feeling the impact of the current situation, your clients are still out there. The need for your services hasn’t gone away.

Don’t freeze product or service launches. We don’t know how long this will last. New products and services still need to come out. The publishing industry is still going strong.

Flexibility Is Important

People’s lives and business have changed drastically, and flexibility is important. Working with people to come up with individual solutions can help you stay competitive.

Giving away content or services for free is a great way to stay visible right now, but you don’t have to do it.

Consider what else you can do for people whose finances are unstable (such as scaling down services and offering payment plans). And remember that lots of people still have a regular income.

Make Use of Your Network

If your work has been directly impacted by the current situation, reach out to your network and tell them. It can be scary and uncomfortable, but asking for work often results in work. Remember that people want to support small businesses. They want to support you. Share your story with them.

Consider What People Want

Consider your ideal client. How are they handling everything that’s going on in the world right now? How can you speak to that?

People want honesty and authenticity more than ever in times like these. Be real in your marketing materials.

People feel the need to connect right now. Consider how you can adapt your services to meet that need. Twitter chats and live online gatherings are a great way to establish and maintain connections.

Consider Your Own Needs Too

Consider what you can automate to save yourself time. Using a social media scheduling service can make self-promotion easier.

Have compassion for yourself and the amount of time and energy you have. Your own needs are important too.
